Book Oscar Niemeyer: Impossible Collection by Assouline
Description
Oscar Niemeyer, one of the fathers of modernist architecture, is remembered through Assouline's handmade limited edition Ultimate Collection volume. Niemeyer's legacy, one of the most far-reaching influences on 20th- and 21st-century architecture, is recognized and honored in Assouline's comprehensive and lavish exploration of Niemeyer's 104-year life and career.
Niemeyer rose to prominence alongside Le Corbusier but ultimately strayed from the hard, straight lines of traditional modernism. Instead, he has forged a parallel track that mimics the crescendos and denouements of human feelings through plunging curves, graceful arcs and sensual lines. By using reinforced concrete, he elevates the everyday to the sublime. Original sketches and photographs, as well as contributions from Tadao Ando, Santiago Calatrava, Frank Gehry and Zaha Hadid, make Oscar Niemeyer a testament to the fantastic artistic journey he has taken over the last century.
White gloves and an iconic canvas tote bag are included with every purchase of Assouline's ultimate collection.
