Book Venice Synagogues: Impossible Collection by Assouline
Description
Commemorating the 500th anniversary of the founding of the Venice Ghetto, this magnificent hand-bound volume from the Ultimate Collection introduces readers to the beauty and historical and spiritual significance of Venice's five principal synagogues, the most important markers of the faith and Jewish culture in the most serene Republic. Behind the walls of the Ghetto, Venetian Jews expressed close ties to the traditions of their ancestors by building these magnificent places of worship. The architecture, furniture and decorations blended the memory of their different countries of origin with the traditions of Venetian artistic culture, bequeathing to the City on the Lagoon enduring monuments of unprecedented eminence which remain places of veneration and of admiration.
White gloves and an iconic canvas tote bag are included with every purchase of Assouline's ultimate collection.

Author
Umberto Fortis, former professor of Jewish-Italian literature at the Union of Italian Jewish Communities (UCEI), University of Rome, and curator of the Jewish Museum in Venice, has published numerous works in the field of Jewish studies, including La parlata del ghetto di Venice and the Judeo-Italian dialects (Florence, 2006) and Daily life in the ghetto: history and society in literary representation (Livorno, 2012). He also edited L'antisemitismo antica (Turin, 2004) and L'antisemitismo moderni e contemporari (Turin, 2004), among others.
Over the past fifteen years, Laziz Hamani has created works for the most prestigious luxury houses in the world. While his talent for lighting and studio techniques is recognized, he still enjoys – and finds it necessary – to work on location in a more spontaneous style. He has published more than thirty books on themes related to lifestyle, art and luxury, including more than twenty Assouline titles, and has produced several exhibitions of his personal work.
